Meet Larry: Your Book Recommendation Buddy at NLCS Jeju

We’re excited to introduce Larry, our new library mascot who’s here to help you find your next favorite book. Larry came to life through a wonderful collaboration with Lana (Year 10), whose creative designs captured exactly what the NLCS Jeju libraries needed – someone who truly loves books and helping others discover them.

Why Larry?

Finding good books isn’t always easy. That’s where Larry comes in – to make book recommendations personal and fun. Larry will be your friendly guide across our library spaces, pointing you towards books you might love.

When you see Larry, you’ll know you’re getting trusted recommendations from our library team and your community. Personal recommendations lead to more reading for pleasure, which research shows improves student’s attainment at school. Look for Larry:

Larry’s First Adventure

We unveiled Larry during Book Week, and what a start it has been! Students and staff shared their own book recommendations on special cards and every person got one of eight collectible Larry stickers, each representing a different genre (beautifully designed by Lana). Ten lucky participants will win custom Larry notebooks in our prize draw.

The response has been amazing and heartwarming – we received hundreds of thoughtful recommendations from students and staff in both Senior and Junior Schools. These recommendations will help shape our future book collections and displays.

The Story Behind Larry

Larry knows pretty much every book there is (they’re a bit dramatic about it), and they’re always excited to match readers with the perfect book. Sometimes Larry crashes into bookshelves in their enthusiasm, but that’s just part of their charm.

What’s Next?

Keep an eye out for Larry around our libraries. They’ll be there to help you discover new books and join in future reading activities. And remember – Larry gets really happy when you come back to tell them about books you’ve enjoyed!
