How Mentors Are Helping Our Youngest Readers Shine

At NLCS Jeju, we believe that learning flourishes when our community comes together. Our Mentor Literacy Programme exemplifies this spirit by connecting our Language Ambassadors and English Prefects with our youngest readers.

How the Programme Works

Every Thursday morning, our dedicated student mentors from Years 9-12 meet with their Year 1 and 2 mentees. Each pair works together consistently throughout the term, building trust and understanding that enhances the learning experience.
“Seeing my mentee’s face light up when they successfully read a new word makes my whole week,” shares Lily, a Year 10 Language Ambassador.

Supporting Young Readers

Our mentors use specially selected materials, including personalised sight word flashcards and level-appropriate readers. These resources, provided by our Junior School teachers, ensure that each session targets specific learning goals while keeping students engaged and motivated.
